Tahawwur Rana, a Canadian citizen originally from Pakistan, has been brought to India by authorities after being extradited from the United States. He is accused of being involved in the 2008 Mumbai terror attacks, one of the deadliest attacks in India, which claimed 166 lives.

Rana, now 64, was previously convicted in the U.S. for helping the militant group Lashkar-e-Taiba, which India holds responsible for the Mumbai attacks. He had been serving a prison sentence in the U.S. and had challenged his extradition, but the U.S. Supreme Court rejected his petitions.

After years of diplomatic and legal efforts, Indian agencies successfully brought him back. The National Investigation Agency (NIA) called his extradition a major step in delivering justice. Home Minister Amit Shah praised the move and said it reflects the Indian government’s commitment to holding terrorists accountable.

The U.S. had agreed to send Rana to India earlier this year, with former President Donald Trump making the announcement during a joint meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
